College of Education December 2010 Graduate Receives one of Four K-State Alumni Association Anderson Awards
Each spring, the K-State Alumni Association recognizes four graduating seniors for their achievements related to leadership, inspiration, and academics, and service.
Richard Weerts, elementary education, received the 2010 Anderson Award for Service. He will graduate in December, 2010 with a concentration in social sciences. He was selected as one of the first four student coordinators of the K-State Volunteer Center, and he twice participated in the National Conference on Volunteering and Service. Richie coordinated the K-State Martin Luther King Day of Service , served as a site leader for the Alternative Spring Break in LaFollette, TN and was head coach for Special Olympics. He was a member of Mortar Board, national college senior honor society, and in Fall 2008, he traveled to Uganda to co-teach and integrate English into classrooms of Ugandan orphans.
